TNAU Genomics

The Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, has sanctioned enough funds for the establishment of the Genomics and Proteomics Lab, in the Centre for Plant Molecular Biology, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. The lab focuses on the understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlining the biotic and abiotic stress resistances.

High density mapping, high resolution mapping and fine mapping of drought tolerance related traits are the important areas of the structural genomics research. The fine mapped QTL regions on the physical map will be intogressed into the elite cutivars using markers.

The functional genomics focusses on the large scale stress responsive gene expression profiling using microarrays, proteomics and RT-PCR. The research is keenly aimed at the understanding of the functional genomics of root growth and root penetration ability of rice.
